The past in the now
I do not see the world as it is
I do not see things as they are
There is an intruder on my present experience
I do not fully know me
As I am, as I really am
As I could be … whole!
I am seeing me as I am, now
A character
A patchwork of past experiences,
of unresolved moments
Through myth, through symbols, through language, through spirituality
I see the world through a gentle you;
A proxy
An enraged you;
An invitation
Because every now and then
I get a glimpse of my improvisations
The child in me, in abiding and legitimate continuity
A glimpse of the real me
Of the greater story
Reflected in the drama, my reactions
in living pictures
Mirrored in the moment
In the stillness
And I have to make a choice
A courageous choice
Away from my imagined safety from pain
Toward a revealing openness
An openness to the givens of life.
